Cheap Car Insurance for College Students – Simple Tips

Cheap Car Insurance for College Students

When you first apply for car insurance one of the key questions that you will be asked within your application
is what is your occupation.

I have sometimes pondered on this question and wondered if it really makes a difference to the premium.

Ok, I do understand that if I am using my car for work, this is business use and will naturally raise the cost.
I also understand that if I commute to and from my place of work this may raise the cost and once again
I will take a gulp buy admit defeat that I am probably saying my car will be used during peak rush hour traffic
every work day and again I will have to pay for this increased ‘risk’

However, if I am using my car for Social Domestic and Pleasure, I cannot understand if it makes any difference
what my occupation is (except maybe if I declare I am a racing driver!).

As a shop worker, carer, postman, clerical worker, toilet cleaner or a college student – should my premium really change?

I truly do not believe that it should but the bottom line is it does!

You can find that cheap car insurance for college students is consequently available because you are a student!

The cheapest ones I have found are insurances that allow you to commute to and from from college but ask you not to
drive after 22.00 hrs. This may be too restrictive for you and you may not want to be tied down to these limitations but
it is one way of reducing your premium considerably!

Cheap Car Insurance for young drivers under £1000

This is not a fairytale heading, although if you have already spent time looking on line for cheap car insurance for young drivers under £1000, then you
will probably be suspicious of this heading but there are things you can do do help to achieve this!

Firstly, a little known but excellent way of helping to keep the cost down is if you are still a provisional driver you can actually get
daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly quotes.

This can be very useful if you only want to take out enough insurance to cover yourself until you pass your test.

Once you have passed your test there are companies that will offer reduced insurance rates with limitation of driving
usage and the addition of additional drivers.

There are many comparative web-sites to use but do not use these alone!

Not all sites register on the comparison sites but it is certainly worth checking them out

Finally, ask locally, there are some insurance companies that specialise in your area and if you are fortunate enough to live
in a low risk area you may well find your premiums will be reduced too.

Cheap Young Drivers Insurance

Well, depending on your definition of the words ‘Cheap Young Driver Insurance’ you could be in for a long haul of trawling through
the internet on ever increasing circles of desperation.

Young drivers are certainly penalised heavily in the Insurance industry and it is the same old story of a few people ruining and hiking
the cost for others.

So what can you do in your quest to keep Insurance as low as possible?

I have researched this intensively and have compiled a list of tips that I am hoping that you will find useful.

The CAR – Please carefully consider this, lower CC, = lower Insurance
The CAR – keep to original specification – the minute you try adding body-kits, lowering and ‘pimping your vehicle’ the higher the cost
Declaration – Please please declare any changes you have made or you WILL invalidate your insurance

Now once you have done your research and chosen the car it is time to consider your insurance options;-

First Off – Not many people are aware but actually learner drivers insurance can be cheaper than those that have passed their test!

The reason for this being that as a Learner Driver you have someone in the car with you etc. Once you have passed your test then
You become the sole driver and therefore a greater risk.

So when purchasing insurance find out what the difference is once passing your test – or you may find an unexpected premium increase
This leads me on to my next tip – Add Family Members!! If other members may use your car then often this will reduce your premium.
Insurance Companies will give reduced rates to Families, so worth checking out who else is insured and if they do a multi car policy.
Some Insurance companies offer reduced premiums for reduced usage, ie, not used after dark etc, it is worth asking the question but only if this suits your lifestyle.

Some young people end up purchasing a car in their parents name and registering it as their parents then adding themselves on the insurance.
To be honest I would not recommend this!
Although sometimes it can save a few pound it is false economy as no ‘no claims bonus’ will be accrued and at some time you will have to start on your own.
Also, the parent runs the risks of losing their ‘no claims’ in the event of an accident.
